Are you living, working or travelling in Serbia and running out of your regular psychiatric medication?
If you already take prescribed psychiatric medication and need continuity of treatment while staying in Serbia, you can book a private consultation in English with Dr Milan Popović, specialist in psychiatry in Belgrade.
The service is intended for expats, foreign residents, digital nomads, international students, business travellers and tourists who already use an established psychiatric treatment.
In straightforward cases, the psychiatric medication review and possible prescription renewal usually take approximately 10 minutes.
English-Speaking Psychiatrist in Belgrade
Finding an English-speaking psychiatrist in Belgrade can be difficult when you are unfamiliar with the Serbian healthcare system.
Medication brand names may differ between countries, and a prescription issued abroad may not always be accepted by a pharmacy in Serbia.
During the consultation, your existing treatment will be reviewed and the active ingredient, dosage, treatment duration and current condition will be considered.
When continuation of treatment is medically appropriate, a private Serbian prescription may be issued for medication available in Serbia.
Prescription issuance is not automatic or guaranteed. Every decision is based on an individual psychiatric assessment.
Who Is This Service For?
This service may be suitable for adults who:
- are currently staying in Serbia;
- already use psychiatric medication prescribed by a doctor;
- know the name and dosage of their medication;
- need continuity of an established treatment;
- are generally stable on their current therapy;
- can provide some reliable evidence of previous treatment;
- require a psychiatric consultation in English.
The service is particularly useful for:
- expats living in Belgrade or elsewhere in Serbia;
- foreign residents;
- digital nomads;
- international students;
- foreign employees;
- business travellers;
- tourists staying in Serbia longer than planned;
- people who have recently moved to Serbia.
This is not a medication-ordering service. It is a brief professional psychiatric consultation intended to assess whether an existing treatment can safely and appropriately be continued.
Fast Psychiatric Medication Review
When your previous treatment can be reasonably confirmed and your clinical situation is straightforward, the consultation usually takes approximately 10 minutes.
During the consultation, Dr Milan Popović may:
- ask about your current condition;
- confirm the name of your medication;
- identify the active ingredient;
- confirm the current dosage;
- ask how long you have been taking the medication;
- review its effectiveness;
- ask about possible side effects;
- review other medication or supplements;
- consider possible contraindications and interactions;
- determine whether continuation of treatment is appropriate.
When there are no significant clinical concerns, the prescription may be issued during or shortly after the consultation.
A longer psychiatric assessment may be recommended if your symptoms, diagnosis or treatment history require more detailed evaluation.
What Should You Provide?
You do not need extensive medical documentation.
Please provide at least one reliable indication that the medication was previously prescribed or used as part of your established treatment.
This may include:
- an old prescription;
- a psychiatric or general medical report;
- a photograph of the medication package;
- a discharge summary;
- a pharmacy record;
- an electronic prescription;
- a screenshot from a healthcare application;
- a previous treatment plan;
- another document showing the medication and dosage.
In many straightforward cases, one relevant document or another reliable form of evidence may be sufficient.
Please also provide:
- the medication name;
- the active ingredient, if known;
- your current dosage;
- how often you take it;
- how long you have been taking it;
- the condition for which it was prescribed.
Medication brand names often differ between countries. Providing the active ingredient is therefore particularly helpful.
Which Psychiatric Medications May Be Reviewed?
The service may include review and possible continuation of established treatment with:
- antidepressants;
- mood stabilisers;
- antipsychotic medication;
- selected anxiolytic medication;
- other appropriate non-stimulant psychiatric medication.
Each case is assessed individually.
Previous use of a medication does not automatically mean that the same medicine or dosage will be prescribed again.
The decision depends on your current condition, previous treatment, dosage, treatment response, possible side effects, interactions and available information.
ADHD and Stimulant Medication Are Not Included
This practice does not provide:
- ADHD assessment;
- ADHD diagnosis;
- ADHD treatment;
- stimulant medication;
- stimulant prescription renewal;
- methylphenidate prescriptions;
- amphetamine-based medication;
- continuation of stimulant treatment prescribed abroad.
This exclusion also applies when a patient already has an ADHD diagnosis or a previous stimulant prescription.
Patients who require ADHD assessment or stimulant treatment should contact a specialist service that specifically provides ADHD care.
Special and Double-Prescription Medicines Are Not Provided
Medicines requiring a special, duplicate or double-prescription procedure in Serbia are not prescribed through this service.
This restriction applies even when the medication was previously prescribed in another country.
Selected anxiolytic medication may be considered following an individual psychiatric assessment, provided that the requested medicine is medically appropriate and does not require a special prescribing procedure.
